“We attract everyone from suits and ties to skateboarders. We are in the neighborhood. We welcome the neighbors, and they have welcomed us. They were just watching for the paper to come off the windows, - then here they came,” Neil says with a grin.
And why not? This section of the City is lovely for strolls. On the west side of the Café is Pyle’s Clock Shop, and on the east side is Tres’ Studio, epicenter of the Forest Park/Avondale Art Walk, and home during the summer to the Magic City Blues’ Junkyard Jukes. Across the street are the park and the library. Just around the corner on 41st Street is Avondale’s version of Main Street, with new shops opening even in this rocky economy. Just over the hill to the south are the Shops of Forest Park.
Parkside Café also has live music, with acts like Marian McKay, who played in April; and Jypsi. There’s never a cover charge for the music.
During June, this Thursday, June 10 Parkside will host Kate Taylor and Taylor Hollingsworth, acoustic guitarists, on the patio. Every Tuesday in June, Hand In Paw will be holding their "Paws on the Patio" fundraisers at the Café. Dogs on leash are always welcome at Parkside on the patio.
What about future plans? “We plan on expanding our menu, but we aren't sure what direction we want to take it yet. and “Upstairs is a loft, we plan on turning it into an art gallery and a space to host private parties.”
Both Neil and Michael have backgrounds in filming commercials. They’ll be prepared when it’s time to film theirs.
