Magic City Moments, Inc. came about in an unusually inspired manner. The year 2000 found the editor in and out of UAB Hospital and Kirklin Clinic. Diagnosed with end-stage alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, I was given two months to live. During that year, I had the privilege of learning first-hand about our excellent medical facilities, and also about the kindness of the people of Birmingham.
The cirrhosis was a gift to me. It was a lesson in priorities, a wake-up call, an education, and an opportunity. Thanks to the care I received, and the love and support of family, friends, and strangers, I have experienced the "magic" of the Magic City. There have been, for me, so many "MagicCityMoments", as well as "Moments I'd Like to Have Back". My recovery is a miracle, and has been its own adventure in "Running in Molasses". By the grace of God I am still here to delight in the Magic.
