Avondale Park has received a multi-million dollar renovation. The additional playing fields, the new Welcome Center, new attractions in the park for kids - all combine for a beautiful new green space. The historic park was home to the first Birmingham Zoo, and pays homage to Miss Fancy the legendary elephant. The Avondale Library that sits on the adjoining property was donated by Andrew Carnegie in the early 1900's. The Park also boasts a natural amphitheatre, which is undergoing renovation as well.
The Park opened October 29, 2011. Drive by 5th Avenue South at 41st Street in Avondale to see the beautiful renovation. Get out and roam to experience one of Birmingham's favorite parks, rich in history.
